Detroit's scouting and draft record has come under a bit of flack in recent years for not being as good as it's reputation would say it is, but they've made two pretty fantastic picks in Mantha and Larkin the past couple of drafts.

30 combined shots in the 1st period. Don't see that very often in the NHL.

Whoa! New Years Eve party started a bit early today?
Potvin29 said:People criticize that Gauthier pick, but a big, strong C who can do what he does is pretty good to have if he can develop. Been a long time since Leafs have had a big C you could put out to shut down the other team - and I think you can put skilled wingers with him because he doesn't have, say, McClement hands (or at least it doesn't look like he does yet).

Not crazy about the pick myself due to not much offensive ability that we've seen so far and I think that has to with his skating. Needs to improve that which I've heard he has already. Time will tell. Good face-off man by the looks of it which never hurts. I agree with the big shutdown thing but most on here would probably agree that type of player could have been found in later rounds or picks.

Right around where he was picked.

*starts to look up players selected for the Canadian WJC team that didn't develop into anything, gets tired, does something else*
