2018-19 Toronto Maple Leafs - General Discussion

The Leafs power play scheme is so good, even after two prolonged stretches of moribund performance, that it skews the average heavily up.

So, either unlucky or not getting enough quality shots?

That purple pool looks like a ton of quality shots, well above what the rest of the league is doing in that space.

We haven't had much opportunity on the PP, so the results are choppy (very different from the effort measures) until we get more time for it to even out. This is not to say the PP has been simply great and terribly unlucky, as it's pretty clear the theory of the setup works but the execution was lacking in the recent stretch.

Adding Matthews to PP1 is supposed to open up options and make it hard for the PK to isolate the attack. What ended up happening was Marner fixating on feeding Matthews alone (it worked in the first few days of the season), which basically nullifies any other effective option on the ice. It was probably a function of the lack of PP time, since Matthews is probably the better bet to net a goal most readily. Going to Tavares and Kadri requires more patience and getting whacked with sticks for the additional effort.

I think Carlton owes me a case of beer or something.

I mean he lasted 4 months longer than you thought he would.

I'm a Mill Street Origanic guy lately.  Nothing too hoppy.

I've got like a quarter of a case of Keith's here if you wanted to pick it up.

Good enough.

I'm surprised Marincin is on waivers instead of Holl.

I've said before that I highly doubt either gets claimed on waivers, but Marincin is a UFA while Holl still has another year left on his deal. So losing Marincin probably wouldn't be a big deal as even if the Leafs needed another LD this season Rosen is probably ready to step up. But losing Holl might effect their plans next season as they'll need his dirt cheap cap hit as a 7D.

If there?s a top 4 injury now, there?s no need for Marincin because Hainsey can play up *shudders* or play 3L and Oz or Holl come in for 3R.

Yeah well regardless a big booooo from me. If he were right handed he'd have been in over Ozhiganov.

When the expansion draft comes, they need to have a player to give up that has a certain amount of playing time to be eligible. Is that what they are doing with guys in the press box for long periods of time? thnx in advance. not sure how that works.

I kinda like Marincin but as someone pointed out we have Rosen ready if we need another left shot
