2019-2020 NHL Thread

Clear hit from behind by Pastrnak - though, not a particularly hard one. He definitely let up some when he realized it was going to be directly into the numbers. However, he shouldn't have put the emphasis into it at the end, and that should lead to a fine. It probably won't, but it should.

Wilson's spear was bad. Sure DOPS will look at that. Pastrnak's sucker punch after the hit at the bench wasn't great, but will probably go unpunished. Wilson almost certainly hitting the linesman with some of those punches will also probably go unpunished, as it'll be tough to provide clear evidence on.

Wilson's reputation for being a dirty player is well known. Pastrnak seems to slide under the radar a lot, but he has some history of cheap shots/dirty hits.
Watch Wilson's hands on the "spear". He never turned the blade over so there was no spear IMO. Heel of the stick to the mid section. Pasta trying to sell it. My view, I didn't see the game, is if you're going to dish it out, you're going to get it back. Pasta likes to give it out at times, as does Marchand, so guys like Wilson love to reciprocate. I don't see DOPS doing anything.

At the end though when Wilson is trying to punch Pastrnak when the ref is between them... you're gonna tell me none of those punches inadvertently made contact with the ref?

I don't particularly like how the ref/linesman inserted himself in this. He completely incapacitates Pasternak, allowing Wilson free reign to try to get punches in. That's not acceptable.

I probably should feel guilty for hoping Ovie was going to pull The Rat's head right off his shoulders........but I don't.  It was fun seeing the Bruins get Bruined, even if for only one shift.

I was secretly cheering for Ovechkin in that brawl.

Truth is Wilson?s a dirty punk, perhaps dirtier than Marchand or any Bruin combined.  Of course, that doesn?t change my perception of the Bruins.  I?ll take the Capitals anytime.

Gosh. What a tremendously huge surprise that Seabrook's mystery ailment turned out to be the kind of chronic medical situation that might mean he's placed on LTIR for the forseeable future.

The Sharks have a astonishingly brutal last in the league .879 SV% at 5 on 5 this year.  Jones has started twice as many game as Dell, but neither is really any better than the other.

The next worst team is Detroit at .900.

The Sharks PDO results in a league worst .959, as SH% is about middle of the road.

They need a goalie.

First time I'm seeing this, but that's not a spear. Wilson has a reputation, but I saw several worse stick infractions in the Leaf's game last night and a play like Wilson's happens all the time in games.

Wilson threw a hit last night on Jakob Lilja from Columbus. I'm not sure how to feel about it. It was a clean hit, but there's no way for the player to escape injury on a hit like that.

He's a player in the vein of a Scott Stevens. Essentially a predatory hitter who is out to hurt you as much as humanly possible while barely remaining "legal". Maybe he'll regret ending your career but probably not.

I'm always a bit surprised that the NHLPA doesn't give a bit more push-back on players like Wilson since he poses a serious threat to others on the ice. One day someone is going to be killed by a "legal" check like that and they'll trot out the "it's a dangerous game" speech and shake their heads at the sad "accident." When that happens I hope someone sues them for all they're worth.

NHL.com has somehow managed to make their stats page even worse. Generally impressed by that.

Going back to this, I'm think they even removed useful features in this re-design. I'm pretty sure when you clicked on the sort by team drop-down menu you used to be able to sort through all East/West teams or by specific division. Now it's just individual teams. I wanted to see who the top scorers were in the Atlantic division, or who the best goalies by save percentage were. Now I can't. Thanks. I mean I could probably find that on a different website but I've already lost interest.

Yeah, at what point did a hit go from a tool that could be used to separate a player from the puck, to something that was used as an intimidation tactic?  The 70's with the Broad Street Bullies?

Ha! I'm sure the league and NHLPA are talking about this.

Regardless, it's a little early in his career to bite the hand that feeds. And it's not like he has to manage his energy for a playoff run.
