Considering Lindholm is having his worst season since his final year in Carolina way back in 17/18 and Calgary didn't retain anything I think it's pretty good.

1st round draft pick, albeit probably a late one. A prospect who's value seems to be skyrocketing since being drafted, and a roster player who had 39 goals and 74 points last season but is struggling this season of course. If Brzustewicz is legit and if Kuzmenko can be rehabilitated and potentially flipped at some point next season it's pretty great value. If not worst case they still got a 1st rounder for a guy on pace for 50-ish points.

edit: now granted I also think this trade makes a lot of sense for Vancouver too.

No brainer deal for the Canucks.  Will look even better if this rejuvenates Lindholm.

Pretty crazy to think in a matter of a couple years the Flames have seen removed from their roster each of the three players that made up their top line, which was considered one of, if not the best in the league.

Vancouver got a good center, not having his best season, to help their cause this season. He'll help.
I still like this deal for Calgary in terms of the hockey talent exchanged

Kuzmenko 39 goals last season. Much less this season. Slow skater who got slower. Change of scenery might be good for him. But he wasn't the key piece. More like a salary dump for the Canucks with a chance he bounces back some. He has another year left on his deal.

Brzustewicz is 3rd in OHL scoring ... but a dman! He was a 3rd round pick who has moved up the charts. He's on most top 10 Canucks prospect lists as high as #3 .. before his incredible season this year, He's a pretty good prospect.

Joni Jurmo is an older 3rd rounder in Europe. McKeens had him #9 on Vancouver's top prospect list - others lower.
He's a big dman. Skates well. A puck mover. Can turn it over or make poor puck decisions/poor defensive play. He has the physical tools and he can learn to play defensively. Not a sure thing but a respectable possibility. I think he has some prospect value.

1st rounder speaks for itself
Conditional 4th rounder becomes a 3rd if the Canucks make the Conference final.

For a UFA they were about to lose for nothing who wasn't playing that well, that is a pretty good return.

If young talent prices are that high, Leafs definitely cannot afford to play.

Clearly, Calgary has thrown in the towel on the season. So the Tanev to Leafs rumours are underway.

I was gonna say all things considered for a top line but non-top tier centre on an expiring deal, and that he may not re-sign in Van... really doesn't seem so bad at all for Calgary.

He was traded while flying to Toronto to rep the Flames back to Calgary from vacation. He now reps the Canucks as their 6th (?) player.

Lots of talk was that Monahan would fetch a 1st rounder. That seems absolutely, 100% insane to me so we'll see what happens.

If they do get a 1st, have to imagine it will have some serious conditions on it. They?ll only get that because the list of available pivots is pretty bare right now.

Absolute lunacy. I get the cap hit stuff but this dudes a 3C and pending UFA.

edit: and they don't even get any retention either

I agree.

We need to kidnap Treliving et al until after the deadline.

Lindholm deal raised the bar.

The bidding on Tanev will be nuts.

On the flip side...does this add fuel to the "selloff assets" fire?

This trade is a reminder that the Leafs recently gave up a 1st rounder for a 33-year old Nick Foligno who was a pending UFA and had scored a whopping 16 points in 42 games. *puke*

An overpayment for Winnipeg, sure, but that's the price to pay when you are looking to load up for a Cup run in a seller's market.  At least Monahan's age and numbers this season are much more favourable.
