Just wondering what the benefit of signing him to an ELC is as opposed to leaving him unsigned until a later date?
Maybe they gain an extra year or ELC slide?

Without knowing the contract particulars yet, the only thing I can see here is there is no downside, and I guess they?re taking the opportunity to reward a prospect by clearly demonstrating commitment (merry Christmas signing bonus) and fuel some motivation in others.

Chadwick, 6th rd pick from 2023, has matched and exceeded his previous season?s output in less than half of the games played. At 18, he is locked into the WHL until 20, unless he is playing by NHL minutes. His age also means his contract is ELC-slide eligible for two seasons so long as he doesn?t exceed 9 NHL games played in each of those seasons. If he goes back down, he doesn?t count against the cap. The ELC also makes him eligible to be loaned to the AHL after his WHL season.

He has pro-size even if his toolkit is still raw.

Wow looks like Keefe has mixed things up. Wow. The more things change the more they stay the same. Get rid of him. When Matthews was out last week the Domi Marner Knies line looked terrific. Why wouldn't you at least keep them together and see what happens. Nope not this useless t*t. Move them up to the second line Tavares to 3rd and put whoever with Willy and Matthews and give it a go. I almost get the feeling there is some friction caused when you break some of these guys up so he reverts back to the same s**t.

Contract would be 3 years regardless and slide as long as he?s junior eligible. Basically, there?s no downside for the Leafs - clock starts on the contract when he starts playing pro, which is based on age due to the transfer agreement with the CHL and there?s no impact on the cap - but Chadwick gets a nice signing bonus now.

Basically, it?s the team showing they have faith in him as a prospect and rewarding him for a good start to his season,

Beating a dead horse here on my end, and a different answer to JT's 1st question, but I'd still like to see what'd happen with Willy at C. It's very odd the team clearly spent the entire offseason (led by Treliving) thinking that the team would start the season with 3 deep down the middle and that ended a week into preseason. Keefe will quite frankly never trust a Domi+Robertson 3rd line with meaningful minutes so something has to give there.

Also this doesn't vindicate Ryan Reaves in any way, he's still very clearly not a NHL player anymore, but the 4th line continues to struggle even without him. That's a big problem considering the money spent there (well on one of them).

Currently 3rd in league scoring. I absolutely do not advocate for switching Nylander to centre.

It's like the analogy of "promoting" your best engineer to management. You now have someone who may or may not be a good manager, but you've definitely lost your best engineer.

The third line would cook with Marner on the wing killing lower matchups. Matthews does not need Marner.

Woll was hurt Dec 7th
Tonight will be the 10th game he has missed.
Tomorrow will be the 24th day he has missed.
Which means, if he does not return, they can put him on LTIR should they need the cap space.
They would have to send Holmberg or someone down anyway to make room on the roster so I don't know if LTIR for Woll will matter in the short term.

If they call up Hildeby and send down Holmberg, the cap numbers are so close, I'm not sure they could do it. Maybe. Maybe not.

I'll let others sharpen their pencils on which way that will fall.

If Hildeby came up, Samsonov would be sitting. People have mentioned waiving him. After what has happened to him this season, his future in Toronto doesn't look bright. But they have a conditioning stint option for 14 days in the AHL to see if he can recover his game - IF Samsonov agrees to it. I am undecided if that would make any sense. Since some have mentioned waiving him, maybe that is another option to consider - to exploit the CBA rules. I'm not clear what either party would have to lose trying something like that.

I will say that not all of his numbers are representative of his goaltending. This team has played poorly defensively in front of him much of the season. A hunk of this situation is on them.

I saw it mentioned elsewhere and it?s an intriguing enough idea, but I would be tempted to see what offers are out there for Domi and Bertuzzi.

I actually think we can still make the playoffs without them. Once we?re there who knows what can happen.

I don?t think we win a cup this season with or without them. So I don?t think we should be selling assets such as our own picks or prospects to boost our chances by 1% or something.

Maybe we can bring back some almost ready prospects and/or decent draft picks to replenish our emptying cupboards. Or some defensive or goalie pieces.

I don't know...Domi and Bertuzzi were brought in with the playoffs in mind and both have performed well in playoffs past. I don't think we have much of a chance of winning the Cup this year but if you take those two out and replace them with AHLers the chances pretty much go out the window.

I still think this is big picture time - Treliving has to be working on his vision of the team for the next several years (basically the remaining prime Matthews years). Does that include both Marner and Nylander and if so, at what cost? Does the team essentially decide to punt the next two years away and wait for the Tavares contract to expire...if so, then trading Domi and Bertuzzi would make perfect sense. They'll still make the playoffs.

When does he replace Keefe. As long as Keefe is here I don't think we'll see any significant lineup rearrangements (Nylander to center, splitting the core 4 over 3 lines, etc). Keefe is too set in his ways at this point. It may be that the current arrangement is optimal or near optimal given the players available, but we'll never know - until someone with a fresh set of eyes comes in.

I could maybe see a Domi trade if it was to bring in a 3C that Keefe would actually play, or in a side deal to make cap space for that player. I can't see him being traded for picks with no plan to replace his spot in the line-up.

I think that could be linked to a new coach/Nylander at centre?

I don?t think they?d trade both Domi and Bertuzzi, but, I think there?s an argument to do so.

Of course, if Nylander isn?t signed maybe he becomes a trade potential.
