Aaahhhhh so the problem with the Leafs in years past was ONLY trading one first rounder at the deadline. Trading two first rounders is a guaranteed Stanley Cup.

That 2025 2nd was ours originally. Now we have Florida's.

Low firsts for actual NHLers for multiple seasons is not a bad bet, especially if you have an established team structure and a clear window (Kucherov/Point/Hedman).

That’s been his way for a while. Certainly not doing their farm system any favours. They’re now in the middle of a 5 year stretch with no 1st round pick. They don’t have much in house to help extend their window, that’s for sure,

Their roster is a lot like the Leafs - very top heavy. They have a little more oomph in their bottom 6, but still, very comparable.

EDIT: Unless maybe Pittsburgh flips Schenn with retention, which Nashville can’t do as they’ve used all their available spots. Still not sure why Nashville does it, but I can kinda see it from Pittsburgh’s POV if this happens.

Acquiring the flipping the guy to the leafs with retention seems quite clever. Very Dubas.
