2024-25 Toronto Maple Leafs General Discussion

Woll still needs some load management. It's proving out this season that neither Woll nor Stolarz are true starters. I think Woll's numbers can improve when he has less of a burden..... like this Saturday its v the red hot Canadiens.... you can't put Hildebeast in net for that. It's going to be Woll again, who should be resting TBH.

Yet Stolarz seems to be the type of goalie that if healthy, can steal a playoff series for this team. Maybe even Woll can do this if he is sheltered more.

Stolarz is more of an unknown than Woll. Stolarz has played exactly 34:50 mins of playoff hockey. Woll if healthy can do it. He's been excellent for us when he's played in the playoffs. Both of them are learning to become a true starter and it may never happen. We only need one of them to get hot at the right time but chances are, we'll need both for a long run.

Yes agreed. Except Stolarz has had more regular season experience and it's been solid results for the limited games he's had an opportunity to play.

Both of them are the Leafs ace in the hole this playoffs because they provide high caliber redundancy.

If Leafs can get a convergence of the L1 play last night, with hot goaltending from one of Woll or Stolarz, plus their consistent defensive habits.... Leafs are going to be a force in the playoffs. And I'm confident about the last two happening because its happened for most of this season.

Ups and downs of a season. The very reason I think Leafs will beat the Habs is due to the Habs being so hot lately (this will end) and the Leafs being so crappy lately (this will also end). Habs have been too good for too long now, they're due for a regression, and I know just the team to give it to them.

Who has 2 thumbs and is right?

👍🏻🫡👍🏻

This guy!!

Habs are now 1 point out of a Wild Card.

If they finish the season 1 point out of a Wild Card...... remember Hockey Day in Canda when there was a 3 goal lead.....followed by an onslaught of 7 unanswered goals.

I was talking to someone from St Louis today and he said one thing Berube got criticized for in the press a lot was for resting guys and managing their schedules at the cost of losing games in the regular season........... until the Blues came on like beasts with lots of energy in the playoffs and won the Cup. And then everyone in retrospect understood.

That's why guys this season are "week to week". Every player slow walked back to the ice.

Hmm, let's check in on this (very small sample size)
PP1 is 2 for 10, without Tavares... 20%. The PP overall is 4 for 10 but 2 of those goals were from PP2.
They're 26 for 125 with him...20% and I'm pretty sure there were at least a couple scored by PP2 so overall the PP has been slightly better, results wise.
Without Matthews the PP was running around 30%, 17% with.

Great way to invigorate the team and go on winning streak is to have one of the Core5 out of action.

I wonder if someone will post some zone time data, because it is looking like
a) the Leafs are gaining the zone more regularly, and
b) attacking the net more quickly after entry
c) no one is really standing still for too long (except maybe Knies)
