Bruins @ Leafs - Oct. 25th, 7:00pm - CBC, TSN 1050

It's games like this that make me question Phaneuf as captain.  Just what kind of captain is he.  He doesn't strike me as the "he's our best player so let's just make him the captain" type.  He isn't the hardest worker on the team.  He doesn't seem to get the team going with energy.

I just continue to not see it with him.

I don't agree with 2badknees as I think that Gardiner has been good the two years he was healthy but right now I don't blame anyone for not wanting to grade on a curve that easy right now.

I think he's been below average all season now, and he looks worse after his benching than before it. But saying he hasn't had "anything approaching a strong season" is, well, nonsense.

I'm coming from a very biased place but I really want to see the transcript of the conversation between Carlyle and Gardiner when he benched him after having him lead the team in TOI.

I agree completely. I'm just saying that his place within this defensive grouping is less relevant at this point then trying to fit him into a better league-wide context.

I still think he does well in that context but I'm beginning to question some of the high end potential I'd thought he had.

Dougie Hamilton grabs JVR and drags him behind AND around the net and somehow that is coincidental penalties?

In an interview with an insider on TSN radio, the benching occurred because Gardiner refused to take coaching direction, and felt he should be able to play the game like Karlsson on the sens. The benching came about as an attempt to change his attitude.

Bozak as the extra-attacker again.

He made a nice feed to get the puck to Panik there.

That was Kadri. Bozak never touched the puck on that shift.

Kadri fed it to Franson.  Bozak got the puck out to Panik.

Yeah, my bad:

So as a capped out team performing this way, either the GM assembled a bunch of stiffs and needs to be fired or the team are not buying what the 3 line coach is selling.

One of the two needs to be fired and personally I'd like to see what Bylsma could do with this group before firing Nonis.

Nonis obviously vouched for Carlyle this offseason. I just don't see how you could possibly fire one without the other at this point.

If they wait to the off season to make changes I'd agree with you. Midseason though I'd give Nonis a chance to hire a coach as a last throw of the dice.
