Cell Phones

Now that we are getting all the android apps, bb30 is hands above the rest.  iphone as the flavor of the month is losing its luster.

Are all the BB10 phones getting the android apps or just the Z30? When does it start?

Hhmmm.....been a pretty long month!

A question for you?  Do you still need to turn wifi off an on for them Iphones or is it automatic like BB.

I don't like iphone much at all anymore.  I'm not sure what phones will be available through my work when my term is up but I would not get an iphone ever again. Android or BB for sure.

Not sure what you're on about, but my wifi kicks on when ever it's available. I'm happy you like your bb, I just don't get all the hate for the iphone, I guess when you're #1 you're a target from everyone who isn't. Heck, I have 6 month left on my contract on my iphone, I might even consider a bb, but it won't be becuase I dislike my iphone, it will be to experience a different phone.

There's nothing to hate about iphone, except for the screen size.  IOS is still a superior OS compared to Android or even BB.  Not that the latter two aren't up to par, just that IOS, as with all Apple products, seems to function exactly the way it should -- far more of an 'intuitive' experience than anything else on the market right now.

I'm currently using Android ( Samsung's Note 2 -- beautiful screen), and also use a BB Playbook ( awfully ' rickety' software but a tablet I wouldn't trade for any other except the latest iPad).  From my current and past experiences with device systems, Apple stands out above the rest, though.

Speaking of the next greatest iteration, the iWatoh to come, might just be the best of the lot.  Wouldn"t doubt it with the way Apple innovates.

I had an iphone and am now using a Sony Xperia ZL. I liked both. The iPhone 4S's screen was just a tad too small for me, but the Xperia ZL is just a tad too big for my hands.

Took me awhile to get used to it, but I think I might like the Android OS better now. you get more control with it. The main reason I switched, though, is like harps, I just like to try different things. Brand loyalty means absolutely nothing to me. Likewise, if I had a bad experience with a phone, it wouldn't stop me from trying it again in the future.

My biggest complaint with Apple is the use of proprietary devices. It's infuriating to have to buy a charger or other accessory for $50 when you know it's only worth $2. And while there are generic brands out there for much cheaper, the flexibility isn't there. I lost my charger for my Xperia, so I'm using the one from my Blackberry Pearl from two years ago; no problem. Even worse is iTunes. It's such a terrible piece of software. With my Xperia, it's just drag and drop, no restrictions. No jail-breaking other other 3rd party software required.

For tablets, I'm strongly considering the Microsoft Surface Pro 2. I don't really need a consumer-grade tablet, I need a powerful laptop + tablet. It's a bit pricier than some of the other competitors because the keyboards aren't included, but it otherwise completely fits the bill for what I need. I played around with my friend's 1st gen Surface Pro and the built in Wacom digitizer is fantastic. So great for taking notes in a meeting.

I don't hate iphone  its just that they are a rip off, price wise for what you get. bb hit a home run with the z30. and all I wanted to do was let anyone know who was thinking of getting one, that they wont be disappointed, not one little bit.

That is hilarious, little baby screen and all.

Bigger doesn't always mean better. I like phones that can actually fit inside my pocket thank you very much.

But really, everybody has different preferences. The article breaks down a lot of other aspects dealing with smartphones other than their screen size.

Yup. For something that's going to live in my pocket for long periods, I don't want anything significantly larger than an iPhone. It's kind of funny how the two biggest handset producers have gone in really different directions. Samsung's focus seems to be on making things bigger on the outside, whereas Apple seems to be working more on improving the inside.

Not as of next year, they'll be increasing the iPhones sizes according to reports.

I will say that the size of the Galaxy Note, pocket stuffer though it is, has essentially eliminated any urge I have to carry around both a phone and a laptop/tablet.

Yeah, but not significantly, based on what I've read. And, in comparison to how far Samsung is gone, it will barely register as an increase.

EDIT: And, that's all just speculation for now, any way. There was all sorts of talk about physical keyboards, 3D cameras, etc for the iPhone 5, and none of it happened.

I sense a bit of a shot against bigger screened phones. Somewhat unfair of you to imply that anything bigger than the iphone (which in all honesty IS considered small now) wouldn't fit in a pocket. I've had the 3GS, Nexus S, Galaxy S3 and now the Note 2. The fact that every iteration of phone gets thinner makes it easier to fit in your pocket, and so far I really haven't had any trouble carrying my Note 2 around.

Both Apple's 5S and a phone like the Galaxy Note 3 or even Nexus 5 (for a fraction of the cost) are comparable on a benchmark level.

It was a shot against the baby screen comment, which I think is just as unfair. I get that some people obviously prefer the larger screen size, or Samsung wouldn't be making phones that way. Personally though I don't like them. Even if the iPhone went too much bigger than what it already is (which as mentioned it's rumoured to increase in size) I wouldn't be a fan. The 5 might be the last phone I purchase from them if that's the case.

But like I was trying to say in my second paragraph, the screen size should really be the last determining factor when someone like BGR is trying to figure out the "best smartphone of 2013".
