Skin colour? I'm gonna go with no, idiocy yes.

I'm not having that Tigger, the kid basically built a wing of a hospital, won a Norris trophy and they've done nothing but shit on him and now they trade him away in a horrible deal.

At a certain point, there is no smoke without fire.

Sure the deal is horrible but I don't find any sense of a pigmentism issue with PK in Montreal, like not at all.

How do they justify treating a Norris trophy winner who is an exceptional human being the way they have?

Nobody can explain it apparently, everyone is scared to call it what it really is.

Got nothing to do with skin color at all, with attitude probably. PK doesnt take shit easily but that could be said of half the NHL players.

There could be many reasons behind this, I just really doubt PK's skin colour, whatever, was any kind of reason here.

Although I wanted Stamkos, right now just didnt seem the right fit, cap wise, team wise, let the real leaders emerge and let the real Capitan take the wheel. Whats the hurry, we will get to the promised land maybe sooner than later. Sorry Steve but Tampa does love you and why not?

Days like today are fun, but they really make me dislike the league quite a bit.

PK Subban was traded, at least in part because of his skin color, anyone denying that is a liar or a fool.

You have absolute morons in Bergevin and Chiarelli running top NHL teams, you only get that if you have a sport that's completely incestuous and full of nepotism, there is zero chance these guys should be making these kinds of decisions.

I think it goes back to the origins of hockey being a sport of nobility and the British's role in having "the right element" in it. All the pushback about how hockey players are a different breed and how this and that isn't acceptable in hockey, it's pathetic. It seems to have such a small town vibe to it and not in a good way.

Ugh.

I understand the instinct and I think there's some truth there but maybe not directly. I dont think you can separate it from the lindrod thing. In the NHL any one who isn't bland as toast, who's anythin other than "I just want to play hard for 60 minutes and give 110% and keep my head down and do it for the boys" is a dangerous troublemaker. "Cocky" and "arrogant" and a "distraction".Are those coded, sure In part, but this is a  extension of "Toeswy from the Peg only says 'we', show boatin' LeBron only says I" and all that garbage.

Oh boy, I'm away from my computer for a couple of hours, and, holy crap, things happen all over the place.

Not too sad on missing out on anyone signed or traded!

I'm legitimately trying to think of what could make this day better. The Oilers and Habs do something stupid, the Leafs don't. Detroit and Buffalo lose out too.

JVR for Tkachuk? Bozak for a popcorn machine? Danny Markov's triumphant return?

JVR + a toaster instruction manual for Vatanen?

Vatanen's signed but I'd take Lindholm in a pinch.

"I'd pass it back to Gardiner, but he's a healthy scratch again."

When was Gardiner a healthy scratch for a significant period of time?

Well, that or buried in the Marlies for a time to start the 2012-13 season:

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/nhl/gordon-idea-that-carlyle-doesnt-like-gardiner-is-comical/

The perception that Carlyle and Gardiner had a strained relationship began a year ago, when the defenceman did not make the team out of training camp and spent the beginning of the lockout-shortened 2012-13 season in the American Hockey League with the Marlies. Gardiner?s agent became frustrated and posted and a message on Twitter that stated #FreeJakeGardiner. Once Gardiner was recalled from the AHL in 2013, he was occasionally made a healthy scratch by Carlyle due to his inconsistent play in the defensive zone.

That's not being a healthy scratch though - he was playing in the AHL.

I highlighted the last sentence.

I think Gardiner really benefitted from Babcock. He was relied on a lot and I saw far fewer gaffs from previous seasons. Babs had him playing with structure and not trying to do too much. Getting Phaneuf out also gave more responsibility all around the d and I think they responded pretty well as a whole.

Nik, I really like this but we better get a lot of hot butter on that popcorn!

I am really sorry if this is repetitive, but now that "you know who" is not coming to Toronto, is there a list anywhere on this site or elsewhere that shows who is headed for UFA on Friday? Does anyone here feel strongly about any of them in terms of the Leafs?

If anyone is able to respond, thanks in advance.

I'm less interested in particular free agents than I am in what to do with the cap space that You-Know-Who won't be taking up?

There's a lot of cap space available, especially after next season, and I wonder whether it makes sense at this point in the rebuild to take on bad contracts for additional picks and prospects. Does the expansion draft kill that market? Would it botch the development of Matthews, et al.?
