Game 6 - Toronto Maple Leafs @ Boston Bruins L6-2

These guys needed a game like this. Things were going too well, in spite of all the holes in their game. Hopefully, this will help reality sink in a little more for them.

3 years and counting we still haven't figured out to play any sort of defence under Wilson.

You did see the 2nd half of last season right?

It isn't like we scored 500 goals while allowing 450. Keep up the negative hyperbole though, it's endearing and refreshing.

Gustavsson has only faced the 40 shots so far with 8 minutes to go.

I feel for the kid, he was playing up to par and then, just started fading away the more the Bruins scored.

Totally mixed feelings here on Gus. The Leafs threw him to the wolves with an angry Bruins team (remember they won the Cup) and a tired
Leafs team. Then they trotted out the usual shoddy D coverage nad
blammo Gus has his goose cooked.

Just got back with a few minutes left in the 2nd period and it seemed like a pretty balanced game...the score seems to indicate otherwise. Did they suck the 1st period?

Defense was shoddy in front of Goose, yeah. Bruins came out hard also. Franson is a 6' 4" pussy.

Yup, easy to deeply dislike Franson for his part in that 3rd goal. I agree.

Let's look on the bright side: he's been on the ice for four goals against tonight - Komi will be back !!  ;D

Before the season started, I was concerned for him because of all the hype. He was a 6/7 dmen in Nashville and that's probably about where he's at with this group. On the upside, he still young enough that he might improve.

Then he went against his agent's advice and shot his mouth off to the media after two games, potentially setting himself up as the whipping boy ... which is a tough act to live through in this town.

Always the calm voice of reason.  ;)

The loss is obviously not his fault but he sure seemed to fold after a few goals compared to Reimer.

Agreed. A terrible night overall for the buds, but especially for the way we let Gus down. I guess the only bright side is that if Reimer had gone through this we might be in an even worse predicament.

Has Reimer faced 45+ shots yet? Most of which have been decent scoring chances? I don't blame anyone for folding under this tonight. In fact, I think he's done pretty well.

Yup. I thought he was playing fine. The 5th goal was a softie however, but he kept it close for a while.

You know, I reckon if he went somewhere else he'd have a good career. I just feel for him cos it feels like it isn't going to happen in Toronto for the guy :(

Too early to judge anything with this team.  I'm not even convinced yet that Reimer is the answer.  Just think, if OTT had come back to win that game, we would be talking about a pretty mediocre start, rumors would be flying about Wilson, etc.  Like I said yesterday in the GDT, our 4-0-1 start flattered us a bit.

What's the problem it's true. Have you noticed any significant improvement in that department let alone much else? I know it's only one game and to be honest with I didn't expect them to win this one.
Sure were off to a good start and I'm happy for that but we haven't exactly dominated any of the games thus far and we still struggle with the same issues. It's frustrating.

I'm sure Burke is up there somewhere losing his mind that nobody is hitting the Bruins very hard. They haven't played a very physical game tonight, even the guys they put into the line up haven't thrown the body around like they should have.

Just think, if Montreal had scored one more goal in their playoff series with Boston, they wouldn't be the defending champs!  ;D

Ifs and buts!  :P

I think everyone is liking Reimer a little more after this. This was an opportunity for Monster to show something against the defending champs and he failed miserably. Sure they didn't play the greatest in front of him, but his work tonight wasn't NHL calibre.

He definitely hasn't shown the same ability to consistently raise his game in those situations. When he loses, he tends to lose big.

Gustavsson doesn't have the mental fortitude to be a starter in the NHL. He played well enough but rolled over when things started to get really bad. That's been his MO during his stay here.

I guess the nuance was lost on you there.
