I wonder if there's any truth to this?..

I doubt it, this team was playing like garbage since game one.

Yeah just another excuse really. If there's any team that shouldn't be bothered with an increased media spotlight like 24/7 it's the Leafs.

Considering the level of media attention these guys are already used to simply by virtue of playing in Toronto, I doubt it.

Considering how often they're repeating the same excuses over and over, it kind of feels like they're to convince themselves that there's enough to them to justify inaction.

Carlyle suggests Colton Orr will rejoin the 4th line the soonest he is healthy, despite how effective D'Amigo-Smithson-Bodie was yesterday.

Carlyle: I think Orrsy earned that right to play on that line, participate and every opportunity to rejoin that line.

That's it. I'm defecting to the Florida Panthers or someone til Carlyle goes.

I'm not about to let anyone off the hook, but the quote from Simmonds:

"if a team was on a losing streak...You come in the dressing room, you want to say a couple of things, but you can?t, because it?s going to be on camera."

Yeah there's always media before and after but sticking cameras in the room during the game I can see it making the guys filter themselves and messing with the dynamic.

Still it's not like a few more f-bombs in the room would have magically turned the team around.

I love how down-right pathetic knuckle draggers get to live off the reputation of 5 years ago, meanwhile skilled players are expected to perform at all times under Carlyle.  What a joke.

64 games (including 7 postseason) without a goal.
48 games (including 7 postseason) without a point.

I'm struggling to see what part of that indicates his earned roster spot.

Carlyle has one hell of a man-crush on Orr.

Wow... you mean the coach expects skill players to put up points, grinders to grind, and sluggers to slug.

I've never heard of that before  ::)

But in all seriousness. I feel he just wants everyone to play the role he gives them. And I believe that in his opinion, Orr plays the role he's told to do well.

Now if you want to argue that that role shouldn't exist, then fine. But turning it into an argue about skill players and Carlyle, just doesn't jive with me. I've found in my watching him coach here and in Anaheim, that as long as there was genuine effort or point production, he almost never misplayed the skill.

*I want to note that most people that complain about this being his team so to speak and created for him then also complain about him using sluggers and the old 2007 top six bottom six. Well there's a contradiction there.

Either this team wasn't made the way he wanted and he does top 6 bottom 6. Or it was made the way he wanted and he's graduated to a top 9 thinking.

Look at the lines when healthy.
JVR - Bozak - Kessel
Lupul - Kadri - Clarkson (at the start of the season had he been healthy)
Raymond - Bolland - (Rotates)

That's  top 9 that can score. Wheres all this 2007 bullshit and he overplays the bottom 6 grinders?

People... make your story straight!

That's not what he said.

Right there he's implying that "knuckle draggers" don't have to do anything and live off reputation but "skilled players" have to "perform at all times" I assume that means put up points.

So yeah... I disagree with his mentality and in my opinion he did say that.

Under Carlyle, fighters fight, energy players bring energy, role players do their roles, skill players put up points.

How can anyone argue with that idea? It's what they're paid to do.
