Men's Olympic hockey

Nice to see Canada score a goal on the rush.

They're really starting to gel this game. Some nice passing and some quick rushes.

Edit: anyone nervous about the close game yesterday need not be today.

I feel bad for Subban.  He's going to sit on the bench most of the game and be expected to work magic on the PP.  He won't and people will talk about him as a failure.  He wouldn't be in my top 6 anyway but I feel bad for the way the media will likely portray his Olympic performance.

The BBC has a feed for this game. Imagine enthusiastic soccer announcers calling a hockey game. It's glorious, way better than Hughson and Simpson just from an excitement perspective. I could watch that all day.

In the other game (if anyone cares), Finland is up 3-0 against Norway.

Selanne, Korpikoski and Lehtera with the goals.

Canada played well enough against Norway...they look to be in another class against Austria.  That is definitely encouraging.

From what I've seen the media has mostly been on his side in thinking he should be getting playing time.

For what it's worth, I thought he had a pretty good shift towards the end, there.  Nearly setup a tip-in after some good board work.

Oh noooooo. Hughson is saying he can hardly hear Healy. I'm guessing he will be back for the 2nd period. :(

I may have to switch to the BBC feed. :)

Canada with a very good period. They could have easily had a couple more goals.

I guess.  I think a lot of the lead-up was just a bunch of talk about how much of a liability his game would be on the big ice because of his risk-taking.  I think it will stay quiet if Canada wins games...but say he gets into the lineup against a tough opponent and the team loses by a goal, I think that is where he will hear it.

I'm still seeing a little bit too much of the North American/NHL style of just getting a guy in front of the net and then taking so-so shots or passes into the middle of the ice in the vague hope that a bounce or a rebound will go their way.
