Kessel's got a pretty good track record of international hockey. Especially on the big ice.

You should read the article quoted in the Canadian Olympic roster thread. It sounds as though Ryan is perceived as being detrimental in terms of speed, being one dimensional and intensity. He doesn't seem to have had many fans among the selection committee.

Well, considering that the group included Brian Burke, who drafted Ryan, and guys like Dean Lombardi who runs a team in the division Ryan played in and, you know, the fact that these are a professional group of well respected hockey men putting together an olympic roster I'm going to go ahead and venture a guess that they watched Ryan pretty regularly.
