Randy Carlyle/Leaf Coach thread

Unless there are some injuries we do not know about, Carlyle's use of his bench is atrocious.

He's lauded for matching lines but, frankly, he's pathetic in throwing out Orr with Kadri, or not increasing ice times for Kessel/Lupul lines when the Leafs need a goal(s).

This seems so basic, there has to be an explanation?

Having watched each and every Boston game last season and this season, I think Claude Julien is an amazing coach. I hate the team and I can't stand them precisely because they are such a well coached team. No one clogs the neutral zone like they do, no one cycles the puck in the offensive zone like they do and they create chances out of each and every turn over. Defence first. Back checking second. Then scoring.

Carlyle was an amazing coach when he had Pronger and Niedermayer playing 27 min/night, Ducks used to have 100 point seasons.

The Leafs have been terrible all year long, apart from a couple periods. I'd love to see Nonis fire Randy while we're still clinging to a playoff spot. At some point the goalies will stop playing lights out.

I loved getting into the playoffs last season and it was a great expetience, but it's a little disappointing it essentially guaranteed Carlyle another 2 seasons.

This is my thinking too.  I would have fired him this summer.

They were also terrible in the year Carlyle took over from Wilson, plummeting to the bottom of the league.  In many respects, they were terrible last year too.

They were plummeting long before Carlyle took over.

I was wondering about this as well.  Could Bernier & Reimer be 'burnt out' by season's end?  I really don't see this happening because it's not like either of the two is playing in the majority of games.

The real saving grace is that they have both. One could burn out, but you always have the other to go to.

Like others, I too am noticing that the goalies are the only thing really keeping this team from unravelling. Phaneuf as well.

Not sure if I would fire Carlyle yet but there's definitely something a bit off about the team.

I suggest replacing him with a monkey with a clipboard. Couldn't be much worse.

What line has zero goals scored against them...the Kulemin line.  Kulemin has played 9 minutes tonight.

Well, let's be honest, they've been in a position to be wanting to score goals tonight for the most part of the game, and Kuli (I love the guy) has been snake bitten all year...or two years.

I wonder if we played him with someone other than McClement if something might change.  Probably not, but might be worth it to try and get some more defensive responsibility in the top 6.

Looked like the coach lost his team. ay least I know I did. I hope that bunch of clowns never comes back. and dressing two punchers for two up and commers. maybe having them in the lineup may have gave Carlyle an option for the lack of effort, from the reg gang.
