After the wash game tonight, we should hear a splat. Randy will get fired, and with our new coach we will start winning again. End of free fall.

That PK number blows my mind.

October: 86.8% (3rd in NHL)
November: 70.0% (29th)
December: 74.4% (28th)
January: 71.4 (26th)

January of course only consists of 4 games. This is one big cliff.

Someone (most probably not named Carlyle) has to find a way to loosen these guys up and simplify their game.  Those guys looked afraid to do anything last night.

Eesh.

And sometimes it takes re-framing an issue to really see how terrible it is:

@67sound
If you treat SO/OT games like ties--which is what they are for evaluative purposes--Leafs are 4-15-12 in last 31, 12-19-14 overall

I think teams deserve full credit for an OT win (as does the league), but yeah only using shootouts as ties doesn't make that look too much better.

Hmm, for some reason I read that without reading the OT part - I agree with you.  Thought it said only SO.

Well, i'm on board for getting rid of Carlyle if for nothing else than to keep talented players like Gardiner and Kadri.  I fear they're labeled "non-Carlyle" players and will be shipped out if he stays.  Sort of the same way Lupul was thrown away in Anaheim, and look what he's become.  Nonis needs to finally act quickly or this team could be set back years in development again all because the coach wants "tough" players.

The scary thing is, the goaltending has been BETTER than last season.  At even-strength last season the Leafs had a 92.5 SV%, this season it is a 93.3 SV%.  But like all those advanced stats guys were saying, their 10.5 SH% at even-strength last season wasn't sustainable - this season it is 8.0%.  At 8.0% the team just isn't getting enough chances on goal because they're getting out-possessed like crazy.  Almost all of the teams with high ES SH% last season have seen those SH% regress this season (there are a couple outliers, Chicago is just stacked offensively I think), most by 1.5-2%.

It's scary how much clout Carlyle has had in manipulating this roster.  Our previous GM was so entrenched in this thoughts that he thrust his desired style of play upon his coach.  Our current GM is the polar opposite and instead is jumping through hoops to cater to his coach (whom he didn't even hand pick!).

Obviously you want to strike a balance in between, but you want the man overseeing the entire operation to call the shots, not the subordinate.

Does this sound like Carlyle?

So it appears certain members of the media have skipped the 'blame Carlyle' phase.

Instead they've gone straight to blame the players and act like they have spent significant time questioning the coach already.

I've seen almost none of the hit pieces Ron Wilson received in the media, despite Carlyle having a worse record than the one that got Wilson fired.

I know it's in part because Ron was snarky, but, I'd have expected more of the MSM in terms of legitimate criticism of Randy.

I would have too but most of the MSM is employed by MLSE owners in some capacity - certainly TSN and Rogers but many of the print guys have TSN/Rogers radio and TV gigs too.

The only one I hear going after them is Jeff O'Neill (sp?)
