I've started watching two shows on Apple TV+(came free for a year with the new phone).

The Morning Show - 8/10 so far. Pretty good show with a great cast. First seasons appears to be exclusively dealing with the Me Too movement.

See - 7/10. I've only watched one episode. It's a pretty cool concept. 200 years in the future, after a disease wiped out all but 2 million people, the remaining humans attempt to survive. The catch is, all remaining humans were left blind. I give it a 7 instead of higher as I'm not sure if the blind part will grow tiresome, or if it'll be difficult to believe after a while.

I don't think I have seen merchandise out on shelves yet, but that cute thing is going to make them a lot of money.

I do have one gripe and it's fairly esoteric, and it's the same gripe I have with Infinity War: Disney doesn't know or care about the difference between forging and casting.

I've also liked the first two episodes. It's fairly lightweight and at times I think it's plagued by the same stuff that have made the recent Star Wars movies sort of hit or miss but it's fine.

I'm not really sure what to make of the Disney service yet. I'd thought it was going to be Disney and Fox's library but it seems like it's just going to be Disney and whatever Fox has that's family friendly. Unless they put a ton of original Marvel and Star Wars stuff on it and soon, I don't think I'm going to be keeping it.

The Marvel slate of new shows is kicking up soon (2020). There are a lot of them. Some of the movies (eg Infinity War) still have to run their course on Netflix but they?ll move over then.

Unless my information is out of date, the only Marvel original series planned for 2020 is the Falcon/Winter Soldier one and that's slated for "Fall 2020". So we're still probably a year or so out from that.

Having all of the Marvel Movies in one place is neat but I've also seen all of them and I don't rewatch them a lot.

I wonder how much of that is an HBO/Crave problem with streaming in Canada.  A lot of Fox movies are on Crave and I don?t know how that is affecting licensure.  My understanding was that Disney+ was going to be a lot of the kid friendly stuff while Hulu would get more of the adult themed stuff.  We don?t have Hulu in Canada so that has a limitation here at least but I think Crave has some of that stuff on licence for streaming.

But I think that speaks to the larger issue here. Whether it's for good reasons(Disney wants this to be a service where parents don't have to worry about what their kids watch) or for probably more likely reasons(Disney wants to profit twice off of their kid friendly content and their more adult content now that they also own Hulu) you're still left with a service that feels half-full. The Disney Library + The Fox Library feels like it's worth a monthly fee on par with Netflix. One or the other doesn't.

The thing Netflix has going for it, in my opinion, is that in addition to all their original stuff I still will open it and find weirdo stuff I never expected to find, a Danish political drama or Australian crime mini-series. Disney, or any of these single source services, is probably never going to have that. So to compensate they're going to need lots and lots of their own stuff and quickly.

Also, just as a super geeky and in the weeds side note, I had always heard the rumour that George Lucas was super permissive with what could be done with his universe in the comics or cartoons or book but his one red line was that nobody was allowed to explain Yoda's backstory or details about his race.

Whether that was never true, true but no longer since he sold out to Disney or is still true and we'll never get into that with the Mandalorian remains to be seen, I guess.

lol.
Though they're inconsequential, I'm often surprised that these simple mistakes are made in high-budget productions.

Yup. Like I said above, I got a free year of AppleTV Plus...Other than the couple series they offer, everything else is pay per view. Thanks, but no thanks. There are a lot of shows that are rumoured to be in development, but unless they get here soon, I won't be keeping the service.

Well in the US is the Hulu + ESPN Plus + Disney+ for 12.99 a month.    Netflix is 12.99 a month in the US so they are on par.

The benefit of Netflix always used to be that it picked up movies like some of the Marvel Ones or (depending on your territory) some fairly big shows - for example it had Friends,  How I Met Your Mother and Big Bang Theory in the UK, if you're into that kind of thing.

However since they started doing their own content I find it mostly miss rather than hit. Definitely a lot of quantity over quality.

I like the idea (especially with a youngster in the house now) of having all the Disney stuff available in one place and it's slated to be cheaper than Netflix.

It was inevitable I guess but it's a shame that entertainment streaming has gone the way of TV and sports TV where you need multiple subscriptions to different services (packages) to see everything whereas it used to be one Netflix one was likely to get you a lot of them in one place from different sources.

Quick question to the powers that be:
Can we use gifs of this cute thing? We can right? It's literally made for giffing.

The Morning Show on Apple TV has been great. Didn't know I could dislike Steve Carrell so much.
