It?s about right for one season of an overpaid ~15 goal, 40 point winger. Washington is trying to insulate Ovechkin for the last leg of his chase for the record.
 
I like Mangiapane, and would have been in on this for a 2nd if it came with retention, but $5.8mil even just for 1 more season is a little rich for someone who hasn't broken the 50 point mark in back to back seasons now.
 
I get Washington is sort of keeping the door propped open with a broom stick, but why not target cap dumps that need sweeteners instead of paying picks to help a rebuilder make space? now they are capped out
