2024-25 General Trades and Signings

So he thinks they've got a shot to win while he is in his prime window?

I know Buch is a heck of a player and all but he also turns 30 before this contract kicks in and is coming off the worst offensive season of his prime. Don't think you turn down $8mil x 6 from anyone at that point.

Just as a general aside, I?m shocked Brodie got a 2 year 7.5 mil contract. I thought he?d be a training camp invite or a league min contract at best.

Agreed, the wheels of time got to Brodie this past year.  I like the guy but have fun in Chicago.

What the hell

They need cap space.
Henrique fills the 3rd line center spot so they don't need Ryan McLeod?
Problem is they still need more cap space for two more RFAs or something else has to happen.
I thought they might trade away Ceci for cap space.

Savoie might be the kind of player that gives Lisowsky hope ..
Haven't got my head around the talent exchange yet.
Savoie 9th pick overall. Don't know them well enough.

Cheveldeyoff is literally asleep at the wheel while there are multiple players named Jet(t) getting drafted/signed everywhere other than Winnipeg.

What has knies done to make anyone think he?d warrant anything close to that?

I mean I like knies and I can see growing into an impact player, but he?s nowhere close to that yet.

Well Knies has one season left on his ELC, if he scores 20 goals and gets around 50 points they'll be pointing to this contract, ergo they should probably extend him now to a cheaper deal

So more than what Bertuzzi got?

If Knies can produce similar to Bertuzzi, I'd argue the rest of his game would bump him ahead of Bert, yeah.

A contract like this is a bit of a gamble on the player's future - paying him less than what you think he will be worth but more than what he's currently worth. LA did well on that here, as Byfield is probably a ~$5.5M guy right now, but if last season was the beginning of his breakout rather than him approaching his ceiling, he could easily become a $8M+ guy. I don't know if that's necessarily true of Knies, but I think the team needs to make a similar bet (lower AAV, but same theory behind it). Risk a slight overpay for a potentially significant underpay.

I don't think Byfield and Knies are comparable. Byfield was 2nd overall pick and likely a point-per-game player going forward. I doubt Knies gets near Byfield's output. I do agree with the concept of slightly overpaying now if we get a decent term.

The day before eh, crazy.

Both are Sudbury boys. They were probably planning some beers around the campfire and it came up.
