Filip Forsberg for Martin Erat.  I have no idea what Houston was thinking.

That much of a value differential?!

Probably a bit of an exaggeration, but it's 3 guys with legit MLB potential - not necessarily high-end, but good chance they can make somewhat of a career out of it - for a pretty average back of the rotation starter. It's probably more like 3 Nick Robertson-ish level prospects for two months of Tyler Bertuzzi.

Baseball America's updated prospect rankings for the Astros had Bloss as their #2 prospect, Loperfido #5 and Wagner #19

That's quite the haul, especially considering Kikuchi has been hit very hard the past two months (ERA over 6 for all of June and July)

Can someone explain this in Hockey?
Did we get Mavrik Bourque+ for an expiring Calle Jarnkrok?

Who the hell is Mavrik Bourque?

Some good work by the Jays, fleeced the Astro's, will have to see how the other trades work out.  Hopefully they move Basset and Green for some good return.  Hell, I wouldn't mind seeing Bo go as well.

Dallas Stars 2020 1st round pick (#30) is an RH centre who is on the cusp of NHL minutes, but might be blocked by several other centres in the Dallas pipeline (Dellandrea, Johnston, Stankoven)

With all the mental errors and mistakes being made when they were "contenders," I did think they were having a little too much fun and could appreciate why management would attempt to field a more serious squad. Obviously, it didn't work.

Vlad getting thrown out at second in the playoffs was ridiculous.

While we can't ever know for sure how it impacted their results, I suspect you're right. Personally I loved the kids up the end of the dugout having fun. In every walk of life, people do their jobs better when they enjoy doing them.

I find the old school baseball mentality where everything has to be super serious and dry very strange. These guys travel around playing baseball 6 times a week. If you DON'T love it, that would be hell. If you do... I wish I loved my job half as much as Vladdy, Teo and Gurriel used to love being up the end of the Blue Jays dugout.

And they just haven?t been as fun to watch, and losing is even less fun to watch.

You can definitely see the argument and the logic behind the decisions.

I just think they massively backfired.

Poor Dallas with too much centre depth.

Kiermaier and IKF out today...no big guys tho.

Surprised Green didn?t get moved, but otherwise, mostly as expected. They should have at least considered moving Bassitt, but wouldn?t surprise me if no one presented an appealing offer. Bo and Vladdy are probably better off being dealt in the offseason with an extension in hand - especially Bo, who they?d be selling low on right now considering his poor season and injury.

Does the front office really think this team is in any way going to compete next year? I really don't see it.

Obviously, some upgrades are required and some changes to the coaching staff are absolutely necessary, but, I don't think it's as farfetched as some have made it out to be. These guys didn't forget how to hit and I don't think it's a coincidence that their numbers at the plate dropped off once Mattingly came in as the batting coach. At the very least, he and Schneider need to be replaced.

I don't think Shatkins gets them there, but another management group with a different philosophy might be able to.

Give Juan Soto all the money. The starting pitching should be fine going into next season. The bench should be fine with the recent additions from AAA. They'll need to add to the bullpen and any additional any big bats will help. (Teoscar is a FA)

This could be a one year re-set.

They only have 3 starting pitchers under contract right now. (Bassit, Gausman and Berrios) Manoah likely won?t be available for at best 1/2 the season.

They need 2 more power bats, and the entire bullpen needs to be rebuilt.

Is it impossible? No, but that?s a lot of holes to fill for a one season reset.

Now they can turn around and flip some of these assets they got over the last few days to kick start that. Plus a Soto signing would go a long way (but we all know that?s not happening).

Anyway long way to go still until the start of the next season.

I mean isn't that what we've learned with the Leafs? There just weren't enough pieces here for the team to be a contender and the cupboard is now bare and the team has lots of holes. Hoping things fall into place isn't a winning strategy from my perspective. As a guy who doesn't know the ins and outs of baseball, isn't there also some hand wringing over the picks/prospects the Jays have dealt of the years? Gabriel Moreno comes to mind?

Not having a cap helps make it a little more possible in MLB - though, obviously, still not easy. As for the prospects the team has moved, outside of Moreno, they haven't moved much of note (FYI: can't trade picks in MLB, with some minor minor exceptions that don't apply the Jays' picks - competitive balance picks can be moved, but, that's only around 14 picks total per draft), they haven't really wasted a lot there. Moving Martin and Woods Richardson brought in Berrios, who will be around for a few more seasons and has performed quite well. The rest of the guys they've moved have mostly been middling or easily replaced types. The bigger issue is that they haven't seen great results from their drafts in recent years.

If you go back to all the trades from 2015 until now, offhand, almost no players that left became any kind of player of consequence. Even Moreno isn?t having that great a season, that being said I?d be happy if he was still here.

The leafs comparison isn?t really the same because baseball prospects are very, very different. And you have so many levels of minors to fill out. If anything, the indictment is on the poor drafting rather than trading away the prospects.

The other thing I?d add is that, not counting this batch of trades because we don?t know yet, but even their trading for prospects have been pretty lame. What did they get for Sanchez, Stroman and Donaldson for example. What?s left from those trades? Zach Pop maybe? I don?t every remember who the jays got.

Stroman brought back Woods Richardson, who was flipped for Berrios. The others saw nothing of value for the Jays.
