COVID Cap Crunch - 2020 Offseason

https://twitter.com/DetroitRedWings/status/1323663778886668290
This is a good deal; I wonder how quickly Yzerman can turn this around as he's likely looking at another tank year to wait out a few more Holland days deals. Still a lot of holes to fill without very many gamebreaking options. Dylan Larkin, currently their best player, is 82 GP up on William Nylander and only 45 pts ahead. The 2021 draft is going to feature some real talent at the top up front (Owen Geunther, Aatu Raty, Mason McTavish).

Core:
Dylan Larkin
Anthony Mantha
Filip Zadina
Troy Stetcher

In the pipeline that looks promising:
Lucas Raymond
Mo Seider
Joe Veleno
Jonatan Berggren
William Wallinder

I really can't wait for this election to be over so I can start thinking about hockey again and how terrible the Islanders' cap situation looks right now.

I'm figuring Andrew Ladd ends up on Robidas island to give them the space to sign Barzal.

They're def not buying him out because they literally save nothing for the next 3 years. Def Robidas Island candidate and they'll still have Boychuck's 6 mill hit. Of course they could send both to the minors to save 2.15 mill to give them 6 mill in space but that won't be enough. They could buyout Leo to save another mill. What's really fun is that they haven't yet signed Martin, or Greene either. I wonder what Barzal is going to ask for. Got to be in the 8's if Lee is getting 7?

Sergachev signed. 3 years, 4.8 AAV.

So with the ~2.8M actual space, and 10% offseason space, Tampa has about 10M left to work around for Cernak and Cirelli, but have until the start of the season to clear out 8.1M.

That's a nice deal for TBay in the short-term. His next contract is going to be a big one, though. With the way the contract his structure, his qualifying offer will be $7.2M. Big changes are coming to TBay in the next few seasons. Going to be hard for them to keep the band together.

Basically the same deal as Werenski and McAvoy. I feel like I've always been slightly cooler on Sergachev than most hockey fans. Seeing people call this a steal and maybe it technically is but I think if those other two defencemen set the market at this rate then it's just a fair deal. I'd take them both over him, which isn't exactly a knock of him. I just think getting to play behind Hedman and in the Tampa organization in general probably props him up slightly.

Mini-fridge on the move, still awaiting a contract as an RFA.

Any predictions on how this turns out?  Is the ?easy? fix trading stamkos?  And if they don?t do that, what are the other options? (Pointers to articles welcome.)

If not this, then something like it. Johnson reuniting with Yzerman in some way seems like a foregone conclusion to me, but there are additional steps required.

I can't see Detroit saying ok to this. I would think Zetterberg's contract was insured so its costing Detroit nothing. And Johnson? 4 more years at a 5mill cap hit, 17,750,000 in actual dollars for a declining player? That's worse then 1 year of Marleau and that cost a 1st. I would think it's going to cost more unless Stevie Y is going to do them a favour.
Even if they move Johnson, his 5 mill isn't enough for the Bolts to sign Cirelli and Cernak as they're already over by 2 mill with a 19 man roster. Looks like 2 guys are probably going but who knows.

I wouldn?t be so sure about that. A lot of these mega-term deals weren?t insured. That being said, it will only cost them $1M in real dollars, so cash isn?t the reason they?d be interested in this deal. As for Johnson?s decline, I wonder how much of it has to do with his role on the team changing because of the emergence of guys like Point and Cirelli. For basically no asset cost other than money, that?s a gamble a team like Detroit might feels is worth taking. I mean, it?s not like they can get much worse.

let?s say the Lightning offer Johnson and a future first-round pick (2021 or 2022), or second-rounder in 2022, does Yzerman take it?

Reminder: Detroit can expose Johnson, a Spokane, Wash., native, in next year?s Seattle expansion draft or buy him out later in his deal.

I still think Johnson, 30, can be a top-six player for another team. He?s versatile, able to play wing and center, and can provide experience for a younger, rebuilding group. Johnson said a big reason he signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent a decade ago was Yzerman?s presence
