2022-2023 NHL trades and signings

Subban is still unsigned. I find this kind of odd. Has his play really fallen that much?

There's probably still like a dozen UFAs who would all be pretty solid contributors at the right price (which should be easy to get them at now) that I'm genuinely surprised haven't signed yet.

Training camps are probably what 6 weeks away at this point?  You gotta think a flurry of signings will be coming with these guys.

Iirc he did say he wanted to be closer to home. Rings a bit hollow now, no?

I'm not sure what would be considered hollow about it. He wanted to play at home in front of his friends and family. He got to do that for a full season (and represent his country at the Olympics for the last time). He never said he wanted to stay there forever.

It is also completely reasonable for someone to try something for a year and then to make a different decision a year later.

Especially since it was just coming out of the heart of the Covid lockdown and now the US is basically back to normal (my opinions and feelings about that notwithstanding). This and the Bergeron contract look like one last kick at the can Cup and was probably something they discussed at Tuukka Rask's wedding recently.

Coming off restricted COVID rules being at home with family can go a long way too.  Players already go without seeing their family for long stretches.  Having more restrictive isolation rules made that even worse.

Given the source of this tweet: grain of salt
Lou would be the signing manager for 12 years of Kadri's career, which is pretty weird.

Also hilarious would be if Lou kiboshed this signing due to it reaching public foreknowledge.

It?s a fun one, right? :)

But he actually:

Good thing Lou is keeping everything hush hush, it really gives them a leg up on the competition, genius level GM

This is an old Larry Brooks piece about the Rangers' interest in Kadri in which he floats a very fun idea
https://nypost.com/2022/07/12/how-rangers-can-pull-off-adding-nazem-kadri-in-nhl-free-agency/

Sign and trade.

The Rangers could get Kadri if Drury can engineer a trade whereby Kadri would sign with a [second] team that would assume 50 percent of the contract before immediately sending him to New York for a package of futures.

I?m thinking that tanking Chicago and Arizona would be perfect candidates with which to pull off the caper ? clubs that are willing to take on bad contracts and money in exchange for the kind of return they would receive from the Rangers.

I don't hate it.

Now that Kadri is off the board:

(Which sort of sets a high water mark for Sandin)

Kieffer Bellows 1 year 1.2M
Noah Dobson 3 years no cap data yet 4M AAV

Dominos?? Extra-curricular activities aside Stastny had a pretty solid season last year and would have been a good option at that price to replace Kerfoot if he was finally moved.
