2022-2023 NHL trades and signings

Contract negotiations must be getting so easy nowadays. "Are you a non-elite top line forward in your early-to-mid 20s? Here's 8x8-ish!".

Is he better or worse than Sandin?

Better offensively...worse defensively I think.  He benefitted from playing PP1 while Doughty was injured.

Milano (finally) signs a deal (PTO) with a team.

All the noteworthy remaining UFAs are now just the older guys: Subban, Chara, Stralman, Yandle, Bozak, Thornton, Boyle.

(edit:) Could add Tyler Ennis to that list as well, who always seems to have a tough time finding a team that generally provides value in limited minutes wherever he plays. There was a report he was going to the KHL earlier which is why I didn't include him but apparently that was shot down. Maybe throw Galchenyuk's name on the list too. Oddly enough all 5 forwards I mentioned are former Leafs hah.

On the RFA side of things 41 goal scorer Jason Robertson still needs a contract with Dallas.

I don?t understand how Subban has no takers at all.

I wonder if he was just weighing some of his options along with retirement the whole time.

It is now time for required conversation of Hall of Fame likelihood of these retired players.

Chara for sure, but Subban?

Only one eligible Norris trophy winner isn?t in the hall.

Subban in the HHOF would be a pretty wild choice when you compare him to some other offense first defensemen who haven't made it.

I know scoring stats aren?t the whole picture, but at a quick glance, McCabe?s career numbers aren?t wildly off from Subban?s. And ain?t no one putting McCabe in the hhof.

Not that I necessarily believe Subban belongs in the HHoF, but he has hardware to support his case - a Norris and a Clancy, 2 first team and one 2nd team end of All Stars, and two more top 3 Norris finishes. Also, an Olympic gold medal.

He has a reasonable case beyond the pure numbers, as he was legitimately one of the top D in league for a good stretch.

I'm not sure that trophy case stands up to a ton of scrutiny. A Norris won in a 48 game season, an award I have to look up to remember what it's for and a Gold Medal from an Olympics where he played one game as the team's 7th defenseman. Other than his three times on an end of year all-star team the highest he ever finished in Norris voting was 14th, which he did twice. Those were the only five years he got Norris votes.

I don't think he'd be the worst choice they ever made or anything but as a point of comparison Brian Rafalski had 50 more points in one fewer game, three Stanley Cups and two Olympic silvers.

Off topic but speaking of forgetting award winners, I got into an argument on Twitter about top 5 Swedes all time and I didn?t think the Sedins belonged in there and the counter argument was Sedin won a hart and sundin had no awards.

I had no memory of Sedin winning the hart. Still doesn?t change my mind, they aren?t top 5.
