2022-2023 NHL trades and signings

These teams always go through a funny post cup over inflated salary period.

Maybe. But I wonder if these lucky ducks know that by virtue of winning the cup they might be able to get Mackinnon for less than he otherwise might have demanded. If they can sell him on taking less in hopes of keeping the gang together deals like this look less risky.

The Panthers hiring Paul Maurice and then trading away their 2nd best defenceman for cap reasons would be pretty alright with me.

Talbot traded for Guatavsson. Ottawa making all the goalie moves.

All Dorion needs to do is sign Giroux tomorrow and he just completed a masterful week of GM'ing.

Sarcasm?  I can't really tell.

Nope. DeBrincat trade. Got out of Murray's contract, and got a similar'ish goalie who is only signed for one more year and for less money. If he lands Giroux tomorrow, that's a pretty decent reshaping of their roster in a matter of days.

Reshaping, yes. To the point of appreciably moving the needle? They?ll be better than dead last, but I don?t see playoff contender. Much ado about nothing.

Yup. If they sign Giroux, they?ll moved into the lower end of the mushy middle. Without Giroux, they?re just a different looking bad team.

I don't know.  There's talk they are going to get a top 4 dman like Chychrun or Weegar.  Also they have Sanderson on the way.  They also have a couple of intriguing prospects in Ridley Gregg and Shane Pinto.  If they add a piece like Giroux they could be pushing for a spot.

I think I would say these are their best and most important players who all happen to be at or below Nylander level. Obviously defense is a different equation.

Brady Tkachuk -- Willy level (maybe) --
Alex DeBrincat
Tim Stutzle
Drake Batherson

Thomas Chabot
Jake Sanderson
