Krug is apparently part of the deal, but not willing to waive his NTC for Philly, so they?re supposedly working on finding a third team to make it work.

Cap dump

Can we swing another cap retention trade with Chicago for Hall?

Couple of young RHD. Not real needlemovers, but still interesting pieces to pick up in a cap dump.

They dumped Foligno's signing rights (for 4 days) as well

Just swapping contract slots mostly. Davidson didn't really exact any tangible price from Boston for helping them out.

Per LeBrun in The Athletic, the hold up is for a typically stupid NHL reason - because the initial trade was less than 12 months ago (by two whole weeks) and there?s retained salary involved, the league flagged it as potential cap circumvention, despite the fact Philly signed him to his current deal. It?s absurd.

This is a big hubub for an okay centre.

For an okay centre who will want to be traded again in 18 months.

Considering the places he'd landed so far, I think the trade demands have been pretty fair. Columbus has been a mess and half of the roster in Winnipeg wants out.

And really he's doing Winnipeg a favour by making it clear now he's not re-signing as opposed to letting the Jets just lose him for nothing as an UFA. I'm not crazy about Dubois, largely because it seems like his next contract is going to be nuts for a player of his calibre, but the shots at his character because of his trade requests are overblown I think.

My hot Leafs take is that a healthy Nick Foligno pushes the Leafs past Montreal in 2021 and Toronto goes to the Finals that year against Tampa and nobody complains about how much of an overpayment that trade was (even though it obviously was).

Yeah. His supposed contract demands are nuts for what he's accomplished so far. That's definitely fair game.

I didn't question his character..Just noting a trend.

Finally gets done.

Similar to the Ryan Johansen trade, I'm a little surprised that Hayes at 50% retained didn't bring back any value (PHI reportedly gets a 6th rounder). At $3.5mil I'd have seriously considered him for the Leafs.

edit: heck, the Leafs could have taken both Johansen AND Hayes for free at 50% retention and still had enough cap space left over to sign another decent 3rd line winger (if Murray was dumped).
