2023 Offseason Trades & Signings

Imagine if another veteran player tried to use these contracts as a comparable in negotiations with other teams lol.

I understand the premium for signing with the team probably will not make the playoffs and certainly isn't a cub contender. You would think they would want a more reasonable cabinet though to trade at the deadline when inevitably you recoup some assets.

Duchene there is a bit of a surprise. He had 3 years left on his deal. I'd be very interested him tomorrow, cost depending of course.

Duchene and Wheeler are definitely interesting. Yamamoto, too, on a cheap show me type deal.

Also, going to be interesting to see which RFAs go unqualified. Could be a good number of potential reclamation projects out there. Not going to be a ton of top quality pieces, but there should be some interesting names out there.

Yeah, and the buyout carries 5.55M and 6.55M cap hits for 2024/25 and 2025/26 after 2.55M this season.

Even trading him with 50% retention for nothing would have been a more managable cap hit.

A couple of very curious cap clearing decisions from Trotz recently. Does he have something planned or just adding cap space for the heck of it?

My edit suggetsted 50% would have been better, but they are already using 2 retention slots (Ekholm for 3 years, Johansen for 2 years) so maybe thet didn't want to use up the last one on this.

If Trotz doesn't have something up his sleeve, this feels like the beginning of a rebuild - which would be interesting. Could put Forsberg and Josi on the trade market.

They don't have a ton of guys signed beyond this season, though, so, maybe he's hoping for a quick reset?
