Curious if true. I guess he thought he could do better and then reality hit and he realized nobody was offering more money, we already settled on Simmonds so sayonara Clifford
 
I'm not sure it would have been a mistake necessarily (that's an easy contract to get rid of if need be) but if Dubas felt that there was only room on the roster for one of Simmonds or Clifford I'm good with how things ended up.

I was also really happy with the Clifford trade. I found a post all the way back in 2012 where I talked about wanting the Leafs to acquire him. But he really did do squat as a Leaf, both in the regular season and in the playoffs. That was obviously a small and weird sample of games but it makes it a little easier to walk away from him.

We would also have to upgrade the third rd pick to a second.
1.5M Simmonds who can move up the lineup for a spell for one year without bumping up a pick is objectively better.

I think he expected more on the open market and when it didn't come, it was too late to got back to the Leafs. They were rumoured to have offered him 3x1mill. Nice guy and all that but aside from one big hit, I expected more from him. Good luck to him though.

Honestly, how do people even come across tweets from fake accounts like this?? It has zero retweets and zero likes but somehow it gets found and passed on.
 
The inevitable Schmidt trade is gonna be interesting. He's a very, very good defenceman on a pretty reasonable contract for his caliber. Will Vegas be able to get anything close to full value on him or is it going to be like the Murray and Johnsson trades?

I just clicked on "Schmidt" on the trends list and there are literally dozens of people who make fake accounts like this that just get thrown into feeds.

I really wonder why anyone does it. As you say, it's not like they even get a ton of likes/retweets.

Pretty good signing for the Habs. Vancouver was in Cap hell and they still need to sign a D man or two. Hughes and Pettersson up next year will cost them large.
