2022-2023 NHL trades and signings

I'd have taken Kuemper for that. Surprised it wasn't closer to $6mil.

He was definitely the best on the market, but, again, 5 years?

Better than 7, I guess. 5 seems like the shortest deal you're gonna get for what I would call an above average legit starter. His injury troubles likely played a role in that.

To give an idea of just how stupid and broken the league is, TSN just had a panel which basically came to the conclusion that the Tavares signing is a cautionary tale. To re-iterate, this league is one where it's fair to say that teams should think twice about signing elite, in their prime forwards because it means they'll have to say goodbye to useful role players as a result. And they're not wrong.

You could sell me on Kuemper at that price being a better option than Murray at his and if you made me choose I'd probably lean Kuemper but, again, I only think that's true in a "I want the Leafs to win in the next few years and can deal with it if that back half of the deal sucks". In isolation, I don't know if it's a much better decision.

Lack of competition? Campbell goes to Edmonton.  Leafs are out.  It's just Washington or play for a rebuilding team as your options.

Good for him

Good for him. I wasn't sure one season would have been enough for him to cash in that large. Will definitely be interesting to see if he can repeat anything even close to last seasons numbers.

I wish we got a better look at Blackwell on the 3rd or even 2nd line. That contract might be ok but hard to tell considering how underutilized he was here.

I really liked getting him and I liked bits of his game.  The 4th line was far too ineffective for me.

TSN messed this up, said he was going to Carolina.

That's a yikes from me, dawg.

Yeah that about confirms what I was thinking about Yzerman earlier.

Nothing about this deal is good. It's too long, it's too much money, it doesn't feel like a good fit. It's just terrible.
